New Members

The British Show Pony Society is the UK's premier showing society. Membership is franchised into 24 areas throughout the UK. Area 3A covers North Yorkshire & bordering areas which is the largest area within the UK for the BSPS. If you enjoy, own or ride a show pony, show hunter pony, working hunter pony, coloured pony or mountain and moorland pony the BSPS is for you!


You can qualify for prestigious shows like the Royal International Horse show at Hickstead in July. Horse of The Year show in October and London International horse show in December throughout the season.

Shows & Events

What do i get if I become a member?

Members of the BSPS get to compete at BSPS affiliated shows and gain points within their areas. Membership allows you to qualify and complete at Royal International Horse show, Horse of the Year show and also London International Horse show.


 The BSPS offers three championship shows annually. Winter Champs in spring, Summer Champs in August and Heritage Champs at the end of September (only for heritage/mountain & moorland ponies).


For members who choose to compete at the BSPS Summer championships they can be chosen to take part in the premier league team competition and be presented in the Saturday evening finale along with their fellow team mates and all area 3a members.


Throughout the year area 3A have associated shows (not just area 3a shows) within North Yorkshire including agricultural shows where you can earn points (see area points tab for more info). Members points accumulate and at the end of the season riders are awarded at the Sunday lunch and annual party presentation.



How to Join

Membership REQUIREMENTS

If a pony is registered with the B.S.P.S. it must be registered in the name of the legal owner who must be a B.S.P.S. Showing Member, or in accordance with Rule 31. If there is more than one legal owner, their registration must be in all names and all such owners must be B.S.P.S. Showing Members. Ponies must be entered at Shows in the name of the registered owner. 


A rider under 18 years on 1st January must be a B.S.P.S. Junior Member. Junior members registered without a guardian/parent are the responsibility of the owner of the pony they ride. A rider 18 to 25 years must be a B.S.P.S. Adult Showing Member. In all classes held under B.S.P.S. rules no child under the age of 3 years may compete in any Leading Rein Classes, including Tiny Tots, no child under the age of 5 years may compete in any other classes (except Tiny Tots First Ridden and Ridden where no child under the age of 4 years may compete). 


If a pony is produced or trained by a person other than the owner, such person must be a Showing Member. 


The B.S.P.S. Office must be notified in writing of any change of Producer. 


Leaders in Lead Rein and Lead Rein Working Sports pony classes at R.I.H.S., L.I.H.S, Blue Riband Qualifying Shows and the B.S.P.S. Summer, Winter and Heritage Championships Shows and must be a B.S.P.S. Member 16 years old or over. 


Owners and Riders MUST be CURRENT B.S.P.S. members to qualify for the B.S.P.S. Summer and Winter Championships. (also see Rules 21 & 497) 


Exhibitors in qualifying positions, who have never been members of the B.S.P.S are allowed 7 working days in which to become members and register their ponies. N.B. This Rule does not apply to classes with H.O.Y.S., R.I.H.S, HERITAGE M&M RIDDEN SUPREME CHAMPIONSHIP, or Blue Riband qualification. 


Non-members competing in B.S.P.S. classes must be aware of and comply with the B.S.P.S. rules. 


If it is established to the satisfaction of the Council upon receipt of a certificate memorandum of conviction before a Court of Law of an offence of cruelty towards a Horse or Pony or that a member has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register, then that member shall be expelled and their membership withdrawn.
